MISSION MONDAY: Elizabeth Lopez Hernandez, Michelle Rojas Lopez & Jesus Zaldana-Paiz from Tyee High School
Mission Monday is a weekly feature where we showcase our student members and the work they're doing to live out Washington DECA's mission of providing business and leadership opportunities to high school students to succeed in school, careers and life. The following is a project by Elizabeth Lopez Hernandez, Michelle Rojas Lopez & Jesus Zaldana-Paiz from Tyee High School.
The Tyee Holiday Bazaar is an annual winter event where community members gather to complete their holiday shopping. While there are four other bazaars happening on the same day, our two big advantages are that the Tyee Holiday Bazaar is the largest bazaar in the area and is led by our own student body. We have found that community members enjoy supporting Tyee students through this event.
The Bazaar allows our attendees to spend time with their family and friends while they finish their holiday shopping in a joyful, festive setting. While planning the Tyee Holiday Bazaar, we created an organizational chart to employ DECA students based on their strengths and interests. We used this chart to fulfill leadership roles in various departments of the Bazaar.
We had 1721 customers attend last year's Bazaar, and our overall profit was $5,080.49. Our experience from this year’s Bazaar led us to see areas we could improve on for the learning and earning goals for next year’s Bazaar.
