DECA’s Career Development Conferences (CDCs) are where emerging leaders and entrepreneurs showcase their educational mastery, leadership experience, and professional skills!

DECA is a global organization offering with nearly 4,000 high schools around the world participating in DECA’s 50 Career Development Competitive Events Program. Competitive events are a cornerstone of becoming college and career ready graduates and are validated by industry and education for rigor and relevance.

DECA Competitive Events are performance-based requiring demonstration of knowledge and skill in a project or role play scenario concentrated in entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.

Competitive Events start in the classroom where teachers and students work together on projects, case-studies, role plays, and even virtual simulations during the year. Then, each January-May is DECA Competitive Event season around the world at DECA Career Development Conferences at the regional, state, and international levels.

Over 200,000 DECA students around the world, and 12,000 in Washington, begin their climb to international recognition at one of eleven Area Career Development Conferences held throughout the state. Top performers at Area CDCs advance to the DECA state championship level in March.

With over 3,500 attendees, Washington DECA’s State Career Development Conference is one of the largest, most exciting, and most rewarding experiences in all of DECA. Over the course of three days, hundreds of industry judges and DECA volunteers gather to assess and evaluate DECA thousands of DECA students in competitive events. DECA ICDC is the Olympics, Super Bowl, and Academy Awards for DECA’s emerging leaders and entrepreneurs!

Each April/May more than 17,000 teachers and students gather in a major American city like Anaheim, Atlanta, Nashville, and Orlando to compete against the world’s best DECA competitors. From China to Canada to Clarkston…it’s the grand prix and final stop in DECA competition and the enthusiasm, energy, and expectations couldn’t be higher.

Out of 12,000 Washington DECA students who started the competition journey, only 800 are allowed to advance to international competition. Competitive event allocations by International DECA are set by state membership, and one reasons Washington has set a goal to reach 14,000 members is that it will provide additional opportunities for Washington DECA students to participate in the International CDC.

DECA ICDC is not only 5 days of intense competition, it’s also the place for outstanding educational experiences in the DECA Emerging Leader Series. Incredible Leadership Academies for new and veteran DECA teachers, emerging leaders, DECA seniors, and future executive leaders serve to accelerate student learning, confidence, networking, and opportunities.

On the final night of ICDC, the top individual, team, and chapter winners from around the world are crowned in an unbelievable grand awards show.

For over 20 years, Washington DECA has been a consistent top three state in global competition and our quest is simple—be number one!
